Thought you might want to know; our science club field trip this weekend was a grand success. The science club sponsors, Mrs. Masterson, Mrs. Holman, and Ms. Frye took 37 students and 3 spare adults to Fernbank Museum to participate in their Urban Watch program. We hiked 2 miles through the forest on the property, learning about indigenous wildlife. Currently, we are studying the deciduous forest biome, so this up close and person program was perfect! After lunch, the group pulled invasive species (English Ivy) along a trail behind the museum. I was shocked at how willing and eager the everyone was to dive in and yank weeds.
The only glitch was with the bus driver getting lost and being 40 minutes late. That put quite a bit of stress on us trying to figure out what to do. She finally showed up and all was well. Below is for the 44 people participating in the Urban Watch Program.
The slots filled quickly, so we cannot take anyone else. Urban Watch Reminder: You are to be at the school, Sunday, Sept. 29th no later than 8:10 am. We need time to check everyone in and organize. The bus will leave PROMPTLY at 8:30. We cannot wait for anyone. Be sure to dress for the weather as well as wear long pants, closed toe shoes, and socks. I recommend you carry a draw string bag for toting your lunch and a water bottle. You may want to bring bug spray since we will be hiking through the woods. Your parents need to be at the school by 1:45pm. The bus is scheduled to have us back at RMS by 2:00. All students should be able to leave as soon as the bus arrives. The chaperones should not have to wait for any parent to pick up their student. Hope you are ready to get down and dirty with ecology and a deciduous forest! |
