The baby Black Rhino was born Saturday night at Zoo Atlanta!!!!
Today the everyone found examples of symbiosis in a grassland, so they should be able to complete the portion of the biome book due Tuesday.
Monday we will begin with Aquatic biomes. I have posted a calendar under the resources page. Look under the resource tab. This calendar lets students know which days we are scheduled to use a computer lab for research. Have a GREAT WEEKEND! As we continue with Grasslands and the Biome Book, students should have completed their Levels of Organization Illustration and their Grasslands title page.
Yesterday, we made corrections on the Levels of Organization Illustration and every student should understand exxactly how it should be done. We as walked through the biome book breakdown so the students should know what to do for the Grassland portion of the book. This portion is due next Tuesday. Today we will begin with Symbiotic Relationships. The students will read pp 305-306 in their interactive textbook and take notes. Notes: -Symbiotic Relationships (define/describe IN OWN WORDS) Symbiosis "another way to say symbiotic relationships" -Mutualism (define/describe IN OWN WORDS) (give an example) -Commensalim (define/describe IN OWN WORDS) (give an example) - Parasitism (define/describe IN OWN WORDS) (give an example) Parsite All students should have turned in the signed syllabus and the biome book agreement. Not all have done so. :(
Monday: We address biotic vs abiotic factors in addition to the levels of organization. Tuesday: Students took the life science pretest Began illustrating the levels of organization within an environment using organisms found in a grassland. **** Finish the illustration tonight. It is part of the Grassland section of the biome book that will be due next Tuesday. See the biome book breakdown for more details. In class, the students were given the opportunity to look at sample biome books from the past. Wednesday: We will continue to expand our knowledge of grasslands by reading a book entitled Adventures of Riley Safari of South Africa. Thursday: School-wide Writing test symbiotic relationships ******Work on symbiotic relationships portion of the biome book. Friday: Symbiotic Relationships again *******Each night, when possible, work on the biome book. We have had a great first week! I am excited about the students we have this year. I have learned ALMOST everyone's names, but will probably have to start anew on Monday. Friday, we went over the syllabus and the Biome Book Breakdown. For HOMEWORK, the students are to go over both documents with their parents and have the syllabus and Biome Book Agreement signed to be returned on Monday. A copy of the syllabus can be found on the Parent Info tab. We have also set up the password for the students' eClass. eClass can be found on the Gwinnett County Website: gwinneet.k12.ga.us I would recommend that you look at eClass with your student. This is where their textbooks can be located. During the upcoming week we will begin learning about Grasslands, biotic/abiotic factors, the levels of organization in an ecosystem, as well as symbiotic relationships. The students will begin working on their biome book. Happenings this week. Monday the 7th grade will attend the Discipline Talk with Ms. Collard, 7th grade AP My students will be receiving their interactive textbooks in class Thursday the entire school participates in the Writing Test. This test will be scored and given to the Language Arts teacher to give her an idea of where the students are in terms of their writing ability so she will know how to help them improve their writing skills. A timeline and breakdown of weekly expectations, deadlines, and concepts can be found on the Biome Breakdown packet that was sent home Friday. It can also be seen below. An uploaded copy is attached here in case a printed copy is needed. ![]()
